Our fundraiser is live

We’ve opened a GoFundMe to raise $30,000 for the first Awesomage club in Puerto de La Libertad. Here’s what the money pays for, and how we’ll report it.

Today we opened our first fundraiser. It pays for the after-school club on Calle El Obispo in Puerto de La Libertad, El Salvador: a free, safe place for children to go when the school day ends.

What the money pays for

We’re raising $30,000 in total, in stages. It pays for four things:

  1. Level and clear the land. The plot has stood empty for years. The ground needs clearing and levelling, the boundary needs securing, and the old pool needs filling before it’s safe.
  2. Build the classrooms. Three temporary classrooms, so we can open in months rather than years.
  3. Write the curriculum. Short, complete activities in Spanish, built by an experienced educator.
  4. Hire the teachers. Local grown-ups who live nearby and can be there every afternoon.

The land itself costs nothing. James’s family is lending the plot to the club free for 12 months, so no donation goes on rent.

How we’ll report it

This first club is a test. We’ll share what it cost to set up, what it costs to run, and how many children came. Every stage gets its own post here, with photos, so you can see where your money went.

How to help

Donate on GoFundMe. If you can’t give right now, sharing the link helps just as much. And if you can help another way, with a skill, a loan of classrooms or an introduction, tell us here.
